Utsab Chatterjee dominates 1st Griffins International Rapid Rating Open 2025
IM Utsab Chatterjee scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 1st Griffins International Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the competition. Ayush Nath, IM Srijit Paul and Rupam Mukherjee scored 8/9 each. They secured second, third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹100000. The top three prizes were ₹15000, ₹10000 and ₹8000 each. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by United Creation Chess Academy at Griffins International School in Kharagpur, West Bengal on 7th and 8th June 2025. Utsab's first rating tournament triumph of the year
IM Utsab Chatterjee and FM Aditya Vikram Paul were coleaders 7.5/8, heading into the final round. Utsab defeated Aditya to become the clear champion. Ayush Nath won against Debasish Mukherjee to secure second place. IM Srijit Paul scored a full point against Ayushi Roy to finish third. Diya Chowdhury is the sole female player to make a top ten finish. She scored an impressive 7.5/9 to claim sixth place. This tournament witnessed the highest number of registration (493) and participation (485) for a rapid rating open tournament in West Bengal.
A total of 485 players including three IMs took part from various parts of the country. The two-day nine round Rapid Rating tournament was organized by United Creation Chess Academy at Griffins International School in Kharagpur, West Bengal on 7th and 8th June 2025. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 10 seconds increment per move.
