Md. Imran convincingly clinches Koneru Purnachandra Rao Gold Cup and Rolling Shield Rating Open 2025

The top seed of the tournament, IM Md. Imran scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win Koneru Purnachandra Rao Gold Cup and Rolling Shield Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Three players - Raghav Srivathsav V, Abhishek T M and Karan J P scored 8/9 each. They secured second to fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. The total prize fund was ₹805000. The top three prizes were ₹75000, ₹50000 and ₹25000 along with a trophy each. The five-day nine round rating tournament was organized by Hyderabad District Chess Association at LB Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana from 26th to 30th June 2025. The tournament was organized to respect Late Mr. Koneru Purnachandra Rao, Grandfather of Indian legend, GM Koneru Humpy. The top seed of the event, IM Md. Imran made a perfect start by winning eight games in-a-row. Abhishek T M was the sole player trailing by a half point at 7.5/8. Imran drew with Abhishek in the final round to become a clear champion, Abhishek finished third. Sailesh R lost to Raghav Srivasthav V who secured second place.

A total of 552 players including two IMs took part from various parts of India and six from the USA. The five-day nine round rating tournament was organized by Hyderabad District Chess Association at LB Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad, Telangana from 26th to 30th June 2025. The time control of the event was 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment per move.
