Women's World Cup 2025 Round 3.2: Divya and Humpy advance to Round 4

IM Divya Deshmukh and GM Koneru Humpy have advanced to Round 4 of FIDE Women's World Cup 2025. Divya drew with the reigning European Individual Women's champion, IM Teodora Injac (SRB) as it was enough for her to secure her place in the final 16. Divya will face her toughest challenge of the event so far in the form of GM Jiner Zhu (CHN). Humpy on the other hand defeated IM Klaudia Kulon (POL) convincingly to move to Round of 16. IM Vantika Agrawal suffered a loss against GM Kateryna Lagno. GM Harika Dronavalli drew her game against IM Stavroula Tsolakidou (GRE). GM R Vaishali and IM Carissa Yip (USA), missed their chances against each other and their game ended in a draw. Koneru Humpy will face the winner of the match between GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) and IM Meri Arabidze (GEO). IM Meruert Kamalidenova (KAZ) continues her fantastic form as she defeated the reigning World Junior Girls' champion, WGM Anna Shukhman. She will face the winner of the match between R Vaishali and Carissa Yip (USA). WIM Umida Omonova (UZB) defeated WFM Elnaz Kaliakhmet (KAZ) to advance to Round 4. She is currently the lowest seeded 81st, to secure her place in the Pre Quarterfinals. She will face the top seed of the event, GM Tingjie Lei (CHN) in the next round.

Klaudia - Humpy: 0-1

GM Koneru Humpy (2536) got herself an advantageous position in the middlegame using her bishop pair against IM Klaudia Kulon (POL, 2406).

Position after 32.g5??

In an already difficult position, White blundered 32.g5?? Bxh3-+ 33.e6 Bf5 34.Nc5 Rbe8 and Black won the game in ten more moves. Humpy has now advanced to Round of 16 where she will face the winner of the match between GM Alexandra Kosteniuk (SUI) and IM Meri Arabidze (GEO).

Divya - Teodora: 0.5-0.5

IM Divya Deshmukh (2463) drew against IM Teodora Injac (SRB, 2457) as it was enough for her to advance to Round 4. She will face her toughest challenge of the event so far, GM Jiner Zhu (CHN, 2533).

IM Vantika Agrawal (2377) opted for an unusual line in the Nimzo-Indian Defence against GM Kateryna Lagno (2515). She got herself into an unpleasant position early in the game and could not recover.
